چکیده

In this paper we present a method for dense 3D reconstruction from videos where object silhouettes are hard to retrieve. We introduce a close coupling between sparse bundle adjustment and dense multiview reconstruction, which includes surface constraints by the sparse point cloud and an implicit loop closing via the dense surface. The surface is computed in a volumetric framework and guarantees a dense surface without holes. We demonstrate the flexibility of the approach on indoor and outdoor scenes recorded with a commodity hand-held camera.

Hand-Held Acquisition of 3D Models with a Video Camera

Modeling of 3D objects from image sequences is a challenging problem and has been a research topic for many years. Important theoretical and algorithmic results were achieved that allow to extract even complex 3D scene models from images. One recent effort has been to reduce the amount of calibration and to avoid restrictions on the camera motion. In this contribution an approach is described w...

Towards Complete Free-Form Reconstruction of Complex 3D Scenes from an Unordered Set of Uncalibrated Images

This paper describes a method for accurate dense reconstruction of a complex scene from a small set of high-resolution unorganized still images taken by a hand-held digital camera. A fully automatic data processing pipeline is proposed. Highly discriminative features are first detected in all images. Correspondences are then found in all image pairs by wide-baseline stereo matching and used in ...

Exploring High-Level Plane Primitives for Indoor 3D Reconstruction with a Hand-held RGB-D Camera

Given a hand-held RGB-D camera (e.g. Kinect), methods such as Structure from Motion (SfM) and Iterative Closest Point (ICP), perform poorly when reconstructing indoor scenes with few image features or little geometric structure information. In this paper, we propose to extract high level primitives– planes–from an RGB-D camera, in addition to low level image features (e.g. SIFT), to better cons...

Low-cost 3d Laser Scanning in Air or Water Using Self-calibrating Structured Light

In-situ calibration of structured light scanners in underwater environments is time-consuming and complicated. This paper presents a self-calibrating line laser scanning system, which enables the creation of dense 3D models with a single fixed camera and a freely moving hand-held cross line laser projector. The proposed approach exploits geometric constraints, such as coplanarities, to recover ...

Parallel Generalized Thresholding Scheme for Live Dense Geometry from a Handheld Camera

Inspired by recent successes in parallelized optic flow estimation, we propose a variational method which allows to directly estimate dense depth fields from a single hand-held camera in real-time conditions. In particular we show how the central ingredient of the corresponding optic flow method, namely a thresholding scheme, can be generalized to the problem of geometric reconstruction conside...
